Dave is our RaceMe custom-tuning specialist—the expert who takes your diesel’s performance personally. Every truck is different, and Dave builds calibrations that match exactly your setup, driving style, and power goals. With in-depth knowledge of Cummins engine platforms and the full RaceMe hardware/software ecosystem, he delivers tunes that hit harder, drive smoother, and stay reliable under real-world load. When you want performance you can feel—and trust—Dave is the one who makes it happen.

We want to make the tuning process as easy as possible for you. Dave has answered the most frequently asked questions from customers so that you have as much information as possible. This will help you be better prepared for the process before contacting us.

Unlock the absolute pinnacle of power, efficiency, and drivability. Our experts craft every tune to perfectly match YOUR RAM, YOUR modifications, and YOUR goals.

How does the tuning process actually work once I order?

After placing the order, we need the stock file of the truck.

All relevant data of the truck is stored there to create the tuning files.

We’ll also need to know what modifications have been made to your truck and what your performance goals are. This information helps us tailor the calibration so it matches your setup and delivers the driving experience you’re looking for.”

Once we receive the stock file, we will generate your tuning files.

When they’re ready, we’ll email them to you—simply load the files onto your device and then apply the updated calibration to your truck.

Can you tune my truck if it already has a few mods installed?

Yes, we can tune your truck even if it already has mods.
Just let us know what’s been installed, and we’ll build the tune to match your setup.

We have an engine test bench that lets us perfectly match and coordinate all components with each other for the best results.

Customers can also send us their tuning parts, and we’ll install them on our test bench to fine tune the components.

If you share your exact parts list, I can explain what kind of tuning adjustments are usually required.

Does the transmission need to be tuned as well?

If you tell me your truck model, transmission type, and mods, I can say whether a transmission tune would be needed and what kind of improvements you could expect.

For any serious performance or heavy-towing build, reinforcing the 68RFE is strongly recommended before increasing engine output.

The 68RFE transmission should be reinforced when running higher torque or power levels.

  • Pushing significantly more torque can overstress internal components like clutches, shafts, valve body….
  • Reinforcements (upgraded clutches, torque converter, valve body,…) help handle higher power safely and prevent premature wear or failure.

Can a custom tune improve fuel economy?

A well-designed tune can improve fuel economy significantly.
Under steady-state highway driving some drivers see
1–3 MPG gains, occasionally more.

If you choose a
“fuel economy” or “eco” tune, and you maintain a steady driving style, you can reasonably expect real MPG improvements.

Important points:

  • Optimized air-fuel ratios under cruising/light-load conditions
  • Adjusted ignition timing for more efficient combustion
  • Reduced throttle lag, helping you use less throttle to maintain speed
  • Improved transmission shift points (on automatics) to keep RPM lower
  • Removed unnecessary factory limitations that prioritize emissions or drivability over pure efficiency

What files do I need to send you after I receive my tuner?

After placing the order, we need the stock file of the truck. All relevant data is stored there so that we can create a tuning file for the truck.

How to get the file:

Go into Main Menu, ECM, “get stock file of truck”

A file named STOCK.RMN will be saved on the SD card of the tuner.

direction on the sd-card: custom/stock/…

Do you need my VIN, ECM/TCM strategy, or current tune file?

Once your order is placed, we’ll need the stock file from your truck’s ECU.
This file contains all data of the original calibration your vehicle was programmed with from the factory.

Every truck can have small differences in its factory programming, even within the same year and model — so the stock file ensures your tune is accurate, safe, and perfectly matched to your setup.

How long does it take to get my custom file back?

Once we receive your stock file, a typical custom tune is completed and emailed back within one business day.

The exact time can vary depending on your truck, modifications, and the type of tune requested.

Which tune level is recommended for towing a 5th wheel or heavy trailer?

For towing a 5th wheel or heavy trailer, the recommended tune is usually a “Tow/Haul” tune.

Here’s why:

  • Stronger low-end torque: Helps move heavy loads without overworking the engine.
  • Optimized shift points: Keeps the transmission in the right gear longer for towing.
  • Torque management: Reduces stress on the drivetrain and transmission.
  • Improved cooling and efficiency: A few parameters are adjusted that the engine runs cooler under load.

Avoid “performance” tunes focused on peak horsepower, as they can make towing harder on the transmission and reduce long-term reliability.

How does EGT change under load with your tune?

With our tuning, EGT behavior under load is managed to stay within safe operating limits while still delivering additional power. Here’s how it typically changes:

  • Under light to moderate load: EGT stays close to stock levels because fueling and timing adjustments are calibrated for efficiency, not excess heat.
  • Under heavy load (towing, wide-open throttle, long pulls): EGT will naturally rise—as it does with any added power—but the tune is designed to control fueling, timing, and turbo response so the increase is predictable, stable, and within safe thresholds for a healthy engine.

What happens if something goes wrong — can I return to stock?

Yes — if anything goes wrong, you can absolutely return the truck to stock.

With RaceMe tuners, the factory file is saved the first time you program the truck. That means you can always:

  • Flash the truck back to the original stock tune
  • Clear codes and reprogram if needed
  • Diagnose issues safely without the tune in place

Returning to stock is straightforward and fully reversible, so you’re never locked into a tune if you need to troubleshoot, visit a dealer, or simply revert everything back to OEM settings.

Can you tune for bigger turbos, injectors, or intakes?

Yes — we can create tunes calibrated for upgraded components like larger turbos, higher-flow injectors, or performance intakes, as long as the setup is mechanically sound and properly configured.

  • Bigger Turbos: We adjust boost control, fueling, timing,…so that the turbo works efficiently and the engine stays within efficient air–fuel ratios, low egts…
  • Larger Injectors: The tune is balanced to prevent over-fueling, smooth out low-RPM behavior, and keep EGTs in check.
  • Performance Intakes: Airflow changes are taken into account in the relevant mappings.

If you share your exact parts list, I can explain what kind of tuning adjustments are usually required for a setup like yours.

Do you offer ongoing support via email or phone?

We offer ongoing support exclusively via email. You can reach out anytime for tune updates, troubleshooting, data reviews, or general questions, and we’ll be there to help every step of the way.
